“FREEDOM FIGHTER: One Man’s Fight for One Free World” (Destiny Image) is the true story of one man’s continuing fight for a world free of religious persecution. Majed El Shafie was arrested, tortured, and sentenced to die in Egypt after he converted from Islam to Christianity. His dramatic story, and those of others worldwide who are suffering persecution, are told in shocking detail in El Shafie’s new book, which will be released September 18th.

The book is a companion to the award-winning human rights documentary, “FREEDOM FIGHTER,” which debuted on DVD in April from Destiny Image Films. Directed by Chris Atkins, this powerful film documents the work of El Shafie as he travels to Afghanistan and Pakistan seeking out those persecuted for their religious beliefs, and challenging their governments to change. The film also explores persecution in Iraq, China and Egypt. Interviews with victims, activists and politicians help to tell El Shafie’s story as well as the larger story of persecution taking place around the world.

“Traveling worldwide, I investigate claims of abuse, persecution, and slavery and take every opportunity to speak truth to governments that neglect and violate the human rights of their citizens,” writes El Shafie. “Many choose to dismiss this harsh reality—I choose to fight for one free world.”

Today, El Shafie lives in Canada and fights for those persecuted around the world through his human rights organization, One Free World International. Pressuring governments, and challenging both world and spiritual leaders, El Shafie has not been afraid to put everything on the line to help those in need.

“Majed’s story is a powerful and shocking one, but one that should be told,” says Joel Nori at Destiny Image. “He’s brutally honest about his experiences, and doesn’t hold back anything. His tireless dedication to the fight against worldwide religious persecution is tremendous, and this book will hopefully inspire readers to take a stand against persecution–even if it’s simply speaking up when they see or hear something they know isn’t okay.”

The recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal earlier this year, El Shafie regularly testifies before the U.S. Congress and the Canadian Parliament and Senate, and he’s a regular guest on news outlets throughout North America, including Sun News, CBC, CBN News, CTV, Grace TV, Vision TV, ACLJ’s Jordan Sekulow Show and more.
