Mr. Coldstone is not an average rapper. I like to refer to him as an underdog in the CHH industry. Currently signed on to Fadacy Records, he has worked with Applejaxx, Trini, Je’kob Washington amongst others. His latest project “Elevator” was released in May 2011. I(Harry) got a chance to interview him. Enjoy.

YADA: Elevator. (Laughs) Tell us about it.

Mr. Coldstone: (Laughs) Yea man. I was actually in a place in my life where I was tired of being stagnant with my walk with Christ and just my regular way of life. Jesus said in John (14:6), “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” and I know that for questions to be answered I had to hop on that ELEVATOR (aka Jesus Christ) so that my eyes would be open to what I need to do and where I need to go. So Jesus Christ is my Elevator and the stronger my relationship is with him, the higher in elevation with him I go.

YADA: From Unseen to Elevator. How has the journey being for you?

Mr. Coldstone: Honestly it’s been a rough journey on a personal level.  Meaning when I started I had a lot of issues with confidence and believing in the talents that God gave me. Within my family, my brother (The Dean aka Charles) was the one always known for his musical ability. He played for our church in Germany. He was always asked to play at weddings, ceremonies, and travel to other countries to play. I was never known as Corey. I was known as Charles’ baby brother. Unfortunately I allowed that to become my identity but I thank God that he brought me out of that foolishness. God was showing me that EVERY gift he gives IS NOT for the person he gave it to! It’s for the people God is trying to reach. I’m just a tool for him to use! So when I sat on the gift God gave me, that was a sin and selfish!!!! God is truly awesome!

YADA: Looking at your life now, is this where you imagined you would be 10 years ago?

Mr. Coldstone: Honestly no. I thought I would’ve had a wife and children by now. I thought dreams I had would’ve already become a reality but it’s ok. I did things that knocked me off course but because I asked for God’s forgiveness, He put me back in the race I’m supposed to be in.

YADA: How did you join Fadacy?

Mr. Coldstone: I met Applejaxx in 2002/2003 because my brother and I invited him to our church for a concert. While he was there we all clicked like crazy. It was like we were family. So we continued to keep in touch and Applejaxx was the first person to put me on a track without hearing what I sound like. After our first track he asked me and my brother if we’d be apart and that’s how it all started.

YADA: What is your creative process like?

Mr. Coldstone: My creative process is, “DO NOT HAVE A SET FORMULA!” Formulas are good for certain things but for me it’s not good because it restricts my creativity.

YADA: What is the concept behind your name?

Mr. Coldstone: I was in Coldstone Creamery, which is an ice cream store, and I saw the cup sizes which were Like It(aka small), Love It(aka medium), and Gotta Have It(aka large). And I was like, “Wow Lord, we have 3 types of people in this world!” “Those that Like God, those that Love God, and no matter if you don’t Like or Love God, you STILL that Gotta Have God!” So Christ is the true Coldstone and because we were made in his image, my desire is to be a reflection of Him. That’s the reason I called myself Mr. Coldstone. Every day I desire to be more like Him!

YADA: Which artists inspire your sound?

Mr. Coldstone: Artist or movements that have inspired my sound are Applejaxx, Nureau Ink, Gibraan, Tech Groove, Tonex(old music), and Tunnel Rats. My older inspirations: Eminem, Royce da 5’9, Biggie, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot.

YADA: If you were to do it all again will you do Christian Rap?

Mr. Coldstone: To be honest with I wouldn’t say I do Christian Rap but I am a Christian that raps. I say that because unfortunately those type of labels restrict the artist. Now to make sure things are clear, I WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO COMPROMISE MY LOVE FOR CHRIST AND HIS WILL!!!! I consider myself to be an artist that creates Life music. Now granted my life does revolve around Christ but God has also called me to talk about other subjects and connect with people.

YADA: Any international tours coming soon? Maybe a visit to Nigeria?

Mr. Coldstone: Unfortunately there are no tours of late but I would LOVE TO GO TO NIGERIA!!!!

YADA: Final word for our readers.

Mr. Coldstone: I would say to everyone: Be who God has called you to be! And don’t allow yourself to be put in a box! God has no limits so you shouldn’t either. As long as you have God’s blessing run your race the best that you can!!!! To keep up with Applejaxx, Trini, and myself, you can always check for updates at,, Coldstone aka Corey Nixon) Thank you for all your support! God Bless!
