Sentience of Truth

Sentience: able to feel, see, hear, smell or taste; responsive to or conscious of sense impressions; aware; finely sensitive in perception or feeling.

Sentience: able to feel, see, hear, smell or taste; responsive to or conscious of sense impressions; aware; finely sensitive in perception or feeling.

What is perception? Isn’t it the way we are able to understand and respond to things through our senses?
When we can sense something that is to come; an occurrence of any sort, or even inhale the scintillating aroma of mama’s soup, don’t we say we have perceived?
How is it that we perceive though?
I find perception to be nothing but the ability to receive, acknowledge and in most cases, respond to impulses detected from another existing body or element by our sense organs.
But, what are those impulses exactly?
When pressure created and released from any object/body oscillates through a medium such as air and it reaches our ears, we say we have heard.
When light shines on a surface and that object refracts a certain spectrum of that light that makes us ascribe a colour to it, say red, we say we have seen.
When we our sensory receptors, be it on our skin or our tongues comes in direct contact with another substance, we say we have felt, or tasted.
When the fine micro particles of a certain element gets into the air and reaches our nostrils, we say we have smelt.

I need not write an essay to prove our ability to see, hear, taste, smell and feel another person. But, doesn’t all these show the every nature of God in all of creation; spiritual and physical? For me it does. God is sound, God is light, God can be felt, ‘Oh taste and see that the Lord is good’, God can be inhaled. Albeit, it was as we inhaled Life in His breath that we came to life since in the garden.

What is the Truth exactly?
Or if I could better frame the question, Who is the Truth?
Please don’t tell me you’re not aware of the one who alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). The Truth is a person. The Truth is Jesus!

The Truth can be seen in the little everyday things that we do. Like the protective older brother of younger siblings from harmful strangers reminding us of Christ who is the first born of all creation; our older brother who shields us from the enemy. Like the leaf that remains ever green and keeps growing when it remains attached to the tree reminding us that anyone who remains attached to Christ, who is the vine, has Life. The loaves of bread that we devour at the breakfast table reminds us of Christ who is the Bread of Heaven. How about the deafening explosion of sound that comes out of a full blasted speaker which immediately causes one to fidget from its impact? How does that apply? I’m not quite sure, but I think we have been taught that at the (sound of the) name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Christ is King. But you would say, the lion’s roar is a better description of that reality for it’s roar sounds over 5 miles to remind other creatures that that is its territory. And to that I would say you’re most correct.

To perceive God is to receive the Life that He is and more so, live it out. Jesus is the Word by whom all the world was framed, if you choose to see Him everywhere, you’ll meet Him everywhere!

Yours with a quill,
Daudu Daniel
