My dearest Tomi,
It’s felt like eons since we last communicated. I’m currently working on something special. I want it to be a surprise to you. In the interim, I had to share this with you.
We recently had a small debate with my friends on our whatsapp group in an attempt to grasp more of God. A debate that I would like to say I incited. It was simply thus: if Jesus is Truth, does that mean that Truth is Jesus? (If you say Daniel is black, it wouldn’t mean that black is Daniel right?) Of course everyone had their take on the matter and I got to realise that the very nature of the question stemmed from a faulty understanding of Jesus’ words.
A lady on the group chat did highlight a very important point which is the article ‘the’. I did miss that part out which I would like to think contributed to my confusion.
However, here are my thoughts from the light I have: Jesus says, ‘I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life…’ (John 14:6. Emphasis, mine)
‘The’ does certainly make a difference. Let’s say there are 30 houses on my street, if you came visiting and you stood in front of anyone of these (near) identical houses with black gates, chances are that you would walk in and not see me, just some people bewildered by your visit. But, if you stood in front of ‘the’ gate to my house, you’re sure that when you walked in, you’ll meet with me.
In order to understand (the) Truth properly, we have to realise that it is a path or more accurately, it is the Truth; it is THE WAY. Using ‘the’ means that there are other ‘a’ houses, but only one is ‘the’ house.
So, my conclusion is, Jesus is THE Truth. And THE Truth is Jesus (the only way into my house, for there can’t be any other way). Truth isn’t Jesus, but THE TRUTH is Jesus! Take note, Jesus also added in that same verse that ‘no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’. So he made it clear by mentioning that ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ are all a gateway to the Father (not gateways, because He is one person).
In my opinion, there are other ‘truths’. There are other gateways that lead into other people’s houses. Better still, there is an alternative truth, a gateway to meet the liar and the enemy. If I were to say satan is powerful, that would be true. But THE TRUTH is, God gave him that power, so God is ‘more’ powerful. (Permit me to use ‘more’ there, it’s not like they are mates, there can’t be a contest between them. Creator vs creation? That’s a joke!) THE TRUTH is Jesus, and Jesus is always a pointer to the Father. So, THE TRUTH points to the Father!
With this little explanation of mine, I hope I’ve been able to convince and not confuse you that Jesus is The Truth and The Truth is Jesus. As always, I can’t wait to see your thoughts on this subject. Until I write you again, keep being simply exceptional!
Yours with a quill,
