Christian Newswire/ — At a recent press junket, director Tim Chey discussed the differences between his upcoming ‘David and Goliath’ movie and the other two, ‘Noah’ and ‘Exodus.’
“Well first off, I’m not only a director, but also an evangelist,” says Chey who has spoken at some of the largest churches in the U.S. and abroad. “So obviously I’m not going to make a film that’s Biblically not correct or does not give honor to the Lord.”
‘David and Goliath’ is considered one of the big three Bible movies hitting theaters after “Noah” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” The film wrapped principal photography in North Africa and in studios in London and opens as a platform release nationwide on April 3.
Chey refers to the backlash of the film ‘Noah’ which many Christian pastors and leaders shunned. The film still was a box office hit at $120 million, but Christians stayed away in droves.
“There are no rock monsters helping David unfortunately,” Chey jokes to the laughter of the reporters. “But kidding aside, I wanted to make a film that will reinvigorate the kind of faith the future King of Israel had, namely fighting a giant with a zero percent chance of defeating him outside of God.”

Christian Newswire/ — The big-budget, epic movie, ‘David and Goliath’ commences shooting next month in Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria. Directed by Tim Chey (‘Carry Me Home’, ‘Final The Rapture’), the film looks at one of the most powerful and beloved Bible stories of all time. The film will focus on the early life of David who fought against the Philistine giant, Goliath against all odds.
Chey, who just finishing location scouting in Morocco, is jubilant. “We’re going to have thousands of extras, A-list special effects, and it will exceed the epic-look of ‘Noah’.”
The $50 million dollar film comes at a perfect time. Hollywood is embracing faith-based films as of late and the audiences are growing at a record pace according to reports.
“Our company was in development of ‘David and Goliath’ long before ‘Noah’ (recent box office success),” says Chey. “I heard a clear voice from the Lord to make this film. I want the audience to really feel the fear of what it meant to take on a 9-foot giant warrior with a sling-shot and what David’s incredible faith meant to the world.”
Will ‘David and Goliath’ stay Biblically correct? “Absolutely,” says Chey. “Hollywood should embrace true Believers to tell Biblical stories.”

The epic, big-budget Christian film, ‘Carry Me Home,’ from Writer/Producer Tim Chey, comes to theaters in 2014. The film looks at two stories, one of them on the early life of John Newton, the former slave trader who wrote ‘Amazing Grace.’
“John Newton’s life patterns mine in so many ways,” says Tim Chey. “He found Christ in a storm and his life changed forever.”
It took Chey eight years to research and write the script and nine years to bring the project to the big screen. The under $20 million dollar film has the 3rd highest budget for a Christian film after ‘Passion of the Christ.’
“I was thrilled when Cuba Gooding, Jr signed on,” says Chey. “He was my first choice. He read the script and said, ‘I’m in.'”
Chey’s friend, Dean Cundey (‘Jurassic Park,’ ‘Back to the Future’) also shot the movie. “The entire movie’s terrific look is because of one person: my friend Dean. He did a phenomenal job.”
Chey traveled from Fiji to Mississippi to Nova Scotia scouting locations. He chose Connecticut because of the natural beauty and Mystic Seaport.
“I picked Connecticut because of the tremendous historical significance,” says Chey. “We also filmed on the Amistad ship with Dean in a helicopter covering some truly epic moments.”
