One reason why many people find it hard to read the word of God and believe it is that it seems too relaxed and too straightforward to be true. People believe in accuracy, currency, credibility and complexity of something before they can accept it. Before they must have it gulped down their throats of acceptance, they must see how it relates to the currency of whatever they may be facing at the moment.

Just like I said in a previous write-up, people tend to believe the words people say than what some document gives them as inheritance. Okay, let me put it this way: a man would prefer you to tell him something that you see about him that is true, than for you to show him something that has been written about him years or centuries back before he was born. He believes that whatever was written in ‘the past’ is not around to give an accurate picture of where he is going. It is not uncommon. This is because the person, who is also a human being like he is, is showing and telling him what he is seeing about himself. The normal human loves to dwell in the ‘present’; everything about their lives must appeal to them in the present tense.

Let me do a little background run on Jehovah, God. Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1 makes us know that He was existent long before anything and anyone. He was existent even before all the circumstances we trust. He made everything and everyone. He dwells in the eternal. Eternity as defined by classic spiritual writer Andrew Murray, is ‘the ever present now…’ In God’s eyes, there is no future. There is no past. He lives on. He is always present. So as such, God does not ‘plan’. He ‘DOES’. Whatever He wants, He simply DOES. Even Jesus’ coming that is said to have been ‘planned’ was not really planned in the very sense, but was actually ‘DONE’, because the process of bringing about His divine plan for our lives was a gradual one. The fullness of the damage caused by the devil needed to be poured out to its full measure before ‘A New Thing’ could come manifest. That ‘New Thing’ is Jesus! It has to do with His coming to give us life to the full till it overflows (John 10:10 AMP). That is Jehovah, aka Yahweh, the Almighty Powerful God, who dwells in the present. That is why anything He speaks is real and exists and IS HAPPENING, not ‘has happened’ or ‘will happen’.

Whatever God says is true. Whatever He says takes the present form and as such has a great impact on your life. Jehovah is called the ‘Ancient of Days’ and as His name implies, has been existent long before we knew. His words in the Bible hold true; and if you’re wondering how He spoke, whether He spoke Himself, Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16 says that ‘All scripture is inspired of God…’

The Word of God lives! It is more real than anything we know. A personally respected man of God once said, “afflictions are real, but more real is our God!” and I totally agree with him. Many people in the world today focus on the challenges and the weight that it carries. They spend time analysing how terrible the situation is, how it started and spend even more time discussing the trend with which it is going. It is good that we become acquainted with every of the goings-on in our society, but feeding on it will result in some poisoning of some sort. Just as we all watch what we eat and ensure that we take in the best of foods and drinks we can afford, learn to take in God’s word from the Bible. Don’t look at what people say. Always remind yourselves of what Jehovah God had said IN THE BEGINNING. People dwell their entire time on brooding on the powerful nature of witchcraft. Even Pastors dwell their time and space on explaining the wickedness of man and giving stories to incite ‘holy anger’. My friends, why not dwell on the love of Christ instead and grow in the knowledge of His love?

The Word of God lives! Words they say have power. The pen is mightier than the sword. Words can bring healing or destruction, life or death. Even scientists embarked on a research once to prove that words spoken have the power to impact flowers/plants. When to one it is said, “you’re beautiful; you’ll be strong; you’ll be fruitful”, it grows as it has been spoken to. The other plant died because harsh words like “ugly plant; you will die” were spoken to it. The word of God in Proverbs 18:21 says that ‘death and life are in the power of the tongue; and those who eat it shall bear its fruit.’ This means that you have the power to determine every situation around you. Stop being pessimistic. Speak life. True life is only revealed in God’s word. Opening the Bible daily and speaking out whatever you see there is the way of life because what you have spoken was done out of faith, and the word of God, which is life has told us that without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

The Word of God lives! John 1:1 makes us understand that the Word of God, is Jesus. John tells us in the book of Revelations while seeing those visions that there was a Person who looked like the Son of man, on whom the title ‘The Word of God’ was placed. Jesus being the word of God is a pure symbolism of all that Jehovah has been saying. Jesus is also a pure symbolism of all that Jehovah wants us to be. Jesus is the reason why Jehovah said all He said in the Old Testament. This same Jesus was crucified and died that He may bring back to us the life that left us the moment Adam and Eve rebelled against God. Jesus was sure of getting His life back through that His action of love. When He died, He arose after three days to show that He had defeated sin and death. Do you get the connection? If Jesus is the Word of God, and Jesus arose from the dead and dwells with the Father, Jehovah, interceding for us as we speak, then you should be grateful, because what God had said has been fulfilled! The Word of God, Jesus lives!

The Word of God lives! It has the power to make alive. It has the power to give life to those who seek it. Build your hope on the very foundation of God’s Word. Don’t be scared of the world. Worrying will not solve even half of the challenges. The Bible says in Matthew 6:25-34 that we shouldn’t be anxious over anything, but that we should seek first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. Then other things would be added unto you. Same with Philippians 4:6: ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God’. You don’t have to worry. Simply read and meditate on God’s Word to give you direction on how to pray, because it is the Holy Spirit that teaches one to pray and not pray amiss.

The Word of God lives! The word of God is food and gives satisfaction to whoever searches. Whoever searches finds (Matthew 7:7). Jesus described His food as ‘doing the business/will of the Father’ to His disciples. God’s will for your life is to live by His Word. When the devil tempted Jesus the first time, He replied the devil, that “Man shall…live by the Word that proceeds from the Father.” What do you eat? How do you feed? Learn to use the Word of God as your food. You will always be satisfied (Matthew 5:6 NKJV). God wants us to be righteous, and we can’t be righteous without knowing what God’s Word says about righteousness. So feeding on God’s word, meditating on it day and night (Joshua 1:8) will lead you to righteous living and with that, you will be filled.

So acquaint yourself with the Word. Don’t be moved by the situations happening around you. They are purely meant to move you to draw closer to Jehovah and not away from Him. Believe in the Word. The blind man after being healed truly believed that Jesus was no demon-possessed. And when Jesus met him after He was thrown out by the elders because he simply refused to say the wrong thing (but societally acceptable) that could bring eternal death or ‘blindness’ as was the theme in the chapter (John 9), He asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” And after being explained to who the Son of Man is, exclaimed “I BELIEVE!” To believe in the Son of Man is to believe God, and to believe God is to honour His Word. God said in Deuteronomy 30:19 (Common English Bible), ‘I call heaven and earth as my witnesses against you right now: I have set life and death, blessing and curse before you. Now choose life—so that you and your descendants will live—’ and in the following verse 20 (New Century Version) God explained what He meant by choosing life and what was to be done in choosing life: ‘To choose life is to love the LORD your God, obey him, and stay close to him. He is your life, and he will let you live many years…’
